About Us:
The Illinois Chapter of the American Fisheries society is an community of professionals in fisheries research and management in Illinois. Specifically, we are a state chapter of the international American Fisheries Society.
"Fisheries" are the industry or occupation devoted to the catching, processing, or selling of fish, shellfish, or other aquatic animals. The word is often also used to refer to a place where fish or other aquatic animals are caught for food or sport, and should include the aquatic animals targeted for capture/harvest, the places from which those populations are harvested, and the human communities and industry surrounding their capture and harvest. The American Fisheries Society - and by extension our Illinois Chapter - is concerned with all of these.
Our Mission:
The mission of the Illinois Chapter of the American Fisheries Society is the same as the parent society mission (see above). The difference is that it seeks to particularly fulfill those goals here in Illinois as outlined in the objectives.
